Passaic Co. Man Sentenced For Sexually Assaulting 10-Year-Old

According to authorities, the accused sexually assaulted the child several times over two years.

PASSAIC COUNTY, NJ — A Passaic County man was sentenced recently after being found guilty of sexually assaulting a ten-year-old, the Passaic County Prosecutor’s Office announced.

Cirilo Tello, 54, of Paterson, was sentenced to an aggregate term of 17 years in New Jersey State Prison, officials announced.

According to authorities, an investigation into Tello was launched in January 2023 after Passaic police informed prosecutors that a ten-year-old child was being sexually assaulted.

The investigation found that Tello had sexually assaulted the ten-year-old victim “on multiple occasions" between October 2020 and October 2022. Authorities added that the assaults took place at a Paterson residence.

Tello was arrested and received several charges regarding offenses against the victim and the victim’s brother, who was present during the assaults, authorities said.

A trial commenced between November 2024 and December 2024. A jury found Tello guilty of one count of sexual assault and two counts of endangering the welfare of a child.

Tello’s sentences regarding each charge will run consecutively, meaning he will be eligible for parole after serving 85 percent of a nine-year total sentence.

Additionally, Tello will be subject to Parole Supervision for Life and Megan’s Law registration upon release.
