PASSAIC COUNTY, NJ —Jesse Kaplan does not play New Jersey Lottery games often, but he did recently and it paid off in a big way.

Kaplan, of Pompton Lakes, bought a ticket for The Lucky Times 50 scratch-off game at the Quick Stop store in Haskell. He scratched off the tickets and checked them at an in-store scanner, New Jersey Lottery officials said.

When he scanned one of the tickets, a message popped up for him to visit a clerk. He thought something was wrong, so she showed it to the clerk, who told him he won the $1 million jackpot.
