POMPTON LAKES, NJ - A wildfire that burned through over 100 acres of forest in Pompton Lakes over the weekend is no longer a threat to the public, state officials said.
Dubbed the Cannonball 2 Wildfire, the 107-acre blaze burning off Cannonball Road in Passaic County since Saturday afternoon was fully contained Sunday morning, the New Jersey Forest Fire Service said in a statement.
“Forest Fire Service staff will remain on scene and continue to monitor control lines and address areas of concern until significant precipitation occurs to ensure public safety,” the agency said. “Those traveling in the area of the fire are reminded to use caution while traveling as smoke conditions may exist for several days.”
