The mother was knocked out and suffered a concussion and the boy was hit in the face, authorities said.
PASSAIC COUNTY, NJ — A 13-year-old boy was charged with two counts of assault after authorities said he knocked out a mother and hit her son while they were walking on a Passaic street Wednesday, Passaic County Prosecutor Camelia Valdes announced.
The assault occurred at about 5 p.m. at Lexington Avenue and Monroe Street. When the boy approached the woman and her son, the woman stepped in front of the 13-year-old, Valdes said.
The 13-year-old hit the mother, knocking her out temporarily and causing her to fall, Valdes said. The suspect also hit the boy in the face, she said.

The woman was treated for facial fractures and a concussion at a hospital, the prosecutor said.
The woman was pushing her 1-year-old daughter in a stroller when the assault occurred, NorthJersey.com reported. The assault was in retaliation for the boy telling school officials that he was bullied by the attacker, according to the report.
