NJ Man Strangled Woman Near Times Square Hotel, Left Her On Sidewalk: NYPD

The 23-year-old victim died several days after Jaheem Warren put her in a chokehold outside a New York City hotel, officials said.

PROSPECT PARK, NJ — A Prospect Park man has been charged with second-degree murder after he choked a woman and caused her fatal injuries, officials said.

Officials arrested 33-year-old Jaheem Warren on Tuesday in connection with the fatal assault, which happened in broad daylight outside a New York City hotel.

Warren is accused of putting Leslie Torres, 23 in a chokehold outside the Hotel Riu Plaza New York on West 46th Street in Times Square on Oct. 29, said the New York City Police Department. He attacked her, then left her on the sidewalk and walked away, according to NBC New York.

Paramedics took Torres to the hospital in critical condition at around 1:30 p.m. that day, according to officials.

Torres succumbed to her injuries and died on Nov. 4, police said. Her address was listed as a nearby shelter.

Warren faces two charges of second-degree murder, along with first and second-degree charges of both assault and strangulation, police said.

The NYPD is still determining a motive in this incident, and said it does not appear Warren and Torres knew each other.
