Here Are Wayne's Township Council Candidates

The field of candidates for the township's general election in November is set.

WAYNE, NJ — The field of candidates for the township's general election in November is set.

Fran Ritter defeated James Freeswick 160 to 135 for the Democratic spot in the Ward 5 race. Freeswick, a six-decade resident, pegged himself as the better choice because of how long he lived in town. Ritter moved to Wayne about five years ago. She is president of the Brittany Chase Condominium Association.

Longtime incumbent Al Sadowski soundly defeated challenger Louis Avolio 415 votes to 200 for the Republican spot in the Ward 2 primary. Avolio received the endorsement of the Wayne Regular Republican Organization over Sadowski.

Election results are unofficial until certified by the county.

Sadowski will run against Democrat Dianne Douthat in the general election. Ritter will run against Republican Lucy "Aileen" Rivera, who is in her first council term.
