Officials have charged a man who was also injured in the shootout Saturday night.
PATERSON, NJ — One man is dead and another faces weapons charges after a shootout in Paterson over the weekend, officials said.
The Passaic County Prosecutor's Office and Paterson Police said that the two men began shooting at one another in the area of Straight Street and Park Avenue, at around 11:15 p.m. Saturday.
One of the men, a 33-year-old from Paterson, was shot in the head and "throughout his torso," authorities said. First responders transported this man, who has not yet been identified, to the hospital. He eventually died from his wounds on Monday, officials said.

The other man, Uvaldo Mora, had non-life threatening injuries after the shootout, according to Prosecutor Camelia M. Valdes and Paterson Police Officer-In-Charge Isa Abbassi. Officials have charged Mora with second-degree unlawful possession of a weapon and certain persons not to possess a weapon in connection with the shooting.
Both crimes carry a sentence of five to 10 years in prison, if Mora were to be convicted. He is currently being held at the Bergen County Jail, and prosecutors have filed a motion to keep him detained ahead of trial.
