Snow Hammers Wayne, Schools Close for Weather

Schools close today as the township recovers from overnight snow fall, hazardous conditions Monday.

Wayne schools were forced to close today as the township prepared for wet, freezing and hazardous conditions Monday after Winter Storm Linus dropped 7 inches of snow in Wayne as of 7 a.m.

An additional 3 to 5 inches of snow and sleet could fall on Wayne today, the NWS reports. There will also be up to 0.4 an inch of ice on the ground, causing hazardous conditions on roads and side walks. Speed restrictions are in affect on the Garden State Parkway, the New Jersey Turnpike and other major highways as accidents and downed wires continue to plague travellers around the state. The National Weather Service issued a “Winter Storm Warning” Sunday saying a “significant” storm could possibly dump up to three to nine inches of snow in New Jersey, and much rain, sleet and snow in South Jersey.

The winter storm warning will remain in affect through Monday evening at 6 p.m. There is the potential for 0.2 to 0.4 inch of ice in Wayne, according to the National Weather Service.
