Teen Critically Injured After Diving Into NJ Lake, Police Say
A teen was critically injured Saturday after he dove into shallow waters at Greenwood Lake in Passaic County, authorities said.
WEST MILFORFD, NJ - A teen was critically injured Saturday after he dove into shallow waters at Greenwood Lake in Passaic County, authorities said.
Yilin Choi, 18 of Bellevue, Washington, a New York University student, was identified as the injured, West Milford police said in a statement.
At around noon on Saturday, West Milford responded to the area near the lake for a report of an unconscious swimmer. At the scene, Choi was found breathing - albeit unconscious - lying on the dock, police said.

Choi, who was unfamiliar with the area of the lake, did not immediately resurfacing after diving into the shallow water, police said. It was not immediately clear who removed Choi from the water.
After he was treated by West Milford police, West Milford EMS and Atlantic Hospital paramedics, Choi was transported via medevac to St. Joseph’s Hospital in Paterson.

An update on Choi's condition was not immediately available Tuesday morning.
Choi is a current sophomore at NYU studying economics and computer science, according to his LinkedIn profile. He’s also an operations manager at NYU’s travel magazine, Baedeker, and a product management intern at artificial intelligence developer Laxis.
