Teen Killed After Car, SUV Collide In Clifton: Officials

The 17-year-old was a passenger in one of the vehicles, according to authorities.

CLIFTON, NJ — Officials are investigating a fatal crash on the border between Clifton and Paterson that claimed the life of a 17-year-old.

The crash happened early Sunday morning at the intersection of Lakeview and Crooks avenues, said the Passaic County Prosecutor's Office and Clifton Police in a statement. Officers determined that a 2008 Honda Accord and a 2011 Mazda CX-9 collided around 12:30 a.m.

Four people were traveling in the Honda and a teenage passenger was pronounced dead at the scene, officials said.

The Mazda driver was the only occupant of that vehicle. Officials did not say if there were any other injuries, and have not yet disclosed the cause of the crash.

Authorities are still investigating the crash, and said they will release more information when it becomes available. The Passaic County Prosecutor's Office did not immediately return Patch's request for more details.

Officials have been planning safety improvements along Lakeview Avenue from Crooks Avenue to Market Street, including replacement of the existing traffic signal at the intersection where this crash occurred.
