Wayne 2019 School Board Candidates

2 incumbents are running for 3 available, 3-year terms.

WAYNE, NJ —Two incumbents are running uncontested for re-election to the Board of Education in November.

Trustees Michael Bubba, the incument board president, and Suzanne Pudup, are the only candidates running this year. Three, three-year seats need to be filled. Mitchell Badiner will not run for re-election, information released by the Passaic County Clerk's Office shows.

Pudup is seeking her second term on the board. She won her first term by five votes in 2016. She is a retired Wayne teacher who unsuccessfully ran for a Township Council seat in 2011. The Wayne Teachers Union endorsed her, saying she "dedicated her life to the children of Wayne."

Bubba was elected to a three-year term in 2012. He lost a re-election bid in 2015, but was appointed to fill a seat in 2016 after challenger James Petrecca declined to accept the seat he was elected to, citing personal obligations.

Badiner was first elected to the board in 2007. He could not immediately be reached for comment.

There are several ways the third trustee spot could be filled, per state law.

Write-in votes will be counted and the person with the most will be offered the position as long as he or she is "a qualified candidate."

If there is a tie among write-in candidates, a special election is held if more than one of them is eligible and wants to hold the position.
