Wayne Hydrant Flushing May Cause Discolored Water, Pressure Drops
Wayne residents are asked to use "a minimal amount of water" during work hours; the annual water main flushing could take up to six weeks.
WAYNE, NJ — Residents may notice a temporary change in water pressure or color as Wayne's water department begins an annual flush of township water mains soon.
The Division of Water and Sewer said that the systematic flushing should be completed in four to six weeks.
Work begins on Sept. 8 and will take place from 11 p.m. to 7 a.m., Sunday night through Friday morning. Wayne property owners and renters are asked to use "a minimal amount of water" during these hours.

"Temporary discoloration of the water may result from flushing," the water department said in an advisory. "Therefore, water should be allowed to run long enough so as to allow any sediment in the lines, including laundry areas, in the home to clear."
If discoloration continues for more than an hour, residents are asked to call the Township Water Division office at 973-694-5090 between the hours of 7 a.m. and 3 p.m.
