Wayne PD on Ice, Snow: 'Everything is in place to handle what's anticipated.'

The Township of Wayne says they are prepared to combat the wintry hazardous mix of precipitation that has hit New Jersey and forced Wayne Public Schools to close.

Wayne Detective Captain Mark McGrath says Monday’s ice and snow storm is a “standard storm” for the Office of Emergency Management, but says the “road department is prepared and ready to go.”

“Everything is in place to handle what’s anticipated,” said Captain McGrath.

The National Weather Service issued a ”Winter Weather Advisory” for freezing rain, sleet and snow that was put into effect Monday at 6 a.m. and will last until Tuesday at 6 a.m.

Below is an hour-by-hour forecast for Wayne, according to the Weather Channel:

  • Monday, 1 p.m.: Snow, 24 degrees
  • Monday, 2 p.m.: Snow, 25 degrees
  • Monday, 3 to 6 p.m.: Snow, 26 degrees
  • Monday, 6 to 8 p.m.: Snow, 25 degrees
  • Monday, 8 to 11 p.m.: Snow, 24 degrees
  • Monday, 11 p.m. to Tuesday, 1 a.m.: Snow, 23 degrees

Despite the forecast, Captain McGrath reassured there’s plenty of salt to go around.

“There’s not a concern that we’re going to run out,” Captain McGrath said.
