Wayne PD Takes Kids On A 'Shop With A Cop' Day

Wayne police officers helped make the season a little brighter for some local children on Saturday.

WAYNE, NJ - Wayne police officers helped make the season a little brighter for some local children on Saturday, taking a group of kids on a whirlwind holiday shopping spree at Target.

Through the "Shop With A Cop" program, local police were able to provide "a fun filled day for a number of children, while creating positive relationships with law enforcement," according to Wayne police.

The officers spent a few hours hanging out with the kids - who were picked by local schools, community agencies and youth organizations. Children also received gift cards that were donated and were accompanied by police to go shopping that day.

John Barrows, president of Wayne PBA, said they were able to provide four children "with a fantastic experience and a budget of several hundred dollars," which allowed kids to pick out gifts not only for themselves, but also their families.

The effort, Barrows said, "was a group initiative" and wouldn't have been possible without the help of several members of the PBA.
