Wayne Police Arrest Man with 'Brick' of Heroin During Traffic Stop

The man also had active warrants and was allegedly driving while his license was suspended.

A Sussex County man was arrested last week after police say they discovered a “brick” of heroin during a traffic stop.

Wayne Police were traveling west on Central avenue just before 1:30 p.m. Thursday when they observed a light green Kia Forte “cross over the double yellow lines and directly into oncoming traffic” on numerous occasions, according to the police report.

The driver, Michael Davenport, 28, of Vernon, was pulled over on Aisla Avenue and told police his driving privileges were suspended and that he was not in possession of a license, before being asked to exit the vehicle. Police then saw “several pieces of clear scotch tape stuck to the drivers seat ... consistent with the wrapping used to package bundles of heroin into a ‘brick’ (fifty glassine envelopes),” according to the report.

A “trembling” Davenport gave police conflicting reports on where he was coming from and where he was headed, but did tell police he might’ve had active warrants for his arrest in Sussex County and that there was a brick of heroin in the vehicle’s center console, which he had just purchased in Paterson.

Davenport was arrested and brought to police headquarters, where it was learned he had a “no bail want out of the Sussex County Sheriff’s Department and an active criminal warrant out of Wantage in the amount of $250,” according to the report.
