Wayne Police Arrest Teen in Possession of Marijuana, Cocaine

Police say they originally pulled over the 19-year-old woman for failure to wear a seatbelt, but were met with a "strong odor of marijuana."

A 19-year-old woman was arrested in Wayne after police allegedly discovered marijuana, cocaine and drug paraphernalia in the vehicle during a traffic stop.

Wayne Police were working along the Route 23 corridor when they noticed the occupants of a 2013 white Hyundai that had pulled alongside of them were not wearing seatbelts, Wayne Captain Laurence Martin said. Officers pulled the vehicle over on Route 23 North in Pequannock and “were met with a strong odor of raw marijuana” when the driver rolled down her window.

Veronica Castner, 19, of Highland Lakes, was found to be in “possession of three small ... baggies containing a white powdery substance suspected to be cocaine, ... a plastic sandwich bag containing approximately ¼ ounce of suspected raw marijuana and a glass jar containing a smaller amount,” Captain Martin said. Police also discovered three multi-colored smoking pipes containing suspected marijuana residue and a metal “Highagain” marijuana grinder used to break down the product into a form that fits the discovered pipes.
