Wayne Traffic Stop Leads to Discovery of Pills, Marijuana

Police stopped the vehicle before 11 p.m. Saturday for not having rear lights, but noticed a strong odor of marijuana emitting from the car.

Two men were arrested in Wayne last week after a traffic stop led to the discovery of marijuana and prescription pills.

Wayne Police stopped a 2001 Toyota Camry on Ratzer road just before 11 p.m. Saturday for not having rear lights. But after the driver, Albruce Appesh, 25, of Haledon, spoke to police and “emitted a strong odor of raw marijuana,” police shined heir flashlights and were ”able to see pieces of suspected marijuana on the clothing” on Appesh, Wayne Captain Laurence Martin said.

Appesh began emptying his pockets, saying “I have nothing,” but police found “a clear plastic prescription bottle with the label removed containing approximately 40 white [2 milligram Lorazepam] pills” and a glass bottle containing marijuana in Appesh’s front pocket, Captain Martin said.

Appesh and the passenger, Jallal D. Basha, 23, of Haledon, were arrested and each charged with possession of prescription drugs without a prescription. Appesh was additionally charged with possession of marijuana under 50 grams.

Both were released on complaint summons pending court dates, according to Captain Martin.
