WAYNE, NJ – William Paterson University has opened a new, 282-bed, five-story residence hall that is designed to be student-friendly, as well as environmentally friendly.
Named “Skyline Hall” because of the views it offers of Manhattan, the campus’s latest dormitory offers more shared common areas for students, such as community rooms with a modern oversized kitchen, social lounges with television and gaming spaces, a meeting room, and group and private study areas.
The 90,000-square foot dorm features two-bedroom suites with a shared bathroom and free laundry facilities that are synced to a mobile app that alerts students when clothes are ready.

College officials held a ribbon cutting ceremony on Thursday of the $40 million facility, with William Paterson University President Richard J. Helldobler praising the building's design.
Helldobler said the residence hall was “designed to enhance students’ overall community building as well as their academic success.”

Its design is also "consistent with the university’s longstanding commitment to being a green, sustainable campus,” said Helldobler.
According to the college, Skyline Hall's eco-friendly elements include:
- All paint and carpeting adhesives are either low-or zero VOC (volatile organic compound)
- Hard-surface floors that are made of materials that require no waxing or stripping – eliminating a need for harsh chemicals.
- Energy-efficient windows and LED lighting
- Recycling-sorting chutes on each floor to keep recyclable items appropriately separated as they travel to compactors down below.
Helldobler said, “We are proud of our campus-wide sustainability efforts, including our large solar installation and electric car charging stations.” The university’s sustainability efforts were recently recognized with the Commerce and Industry Association of New Jersey’s Environmental Leadership Medal.
The residence hall was designed by Trenton-based architecture firm Clarke Caton Hintz of Trenton, New Jersey and built a Wayne contractor, Dobco, Inc.
Including Skyline Hall, William Paterson University has 10 residence halls on campus. Skyline’s room rate is $4,100 for the Fall 2019/Spring 2020 semesters and the hall is booked as of now, however there is a wait list for it.
Vice President for Student Development Miki Cammarata said the office of residence life is "beyond excited" about the debut of Skyline Hall.
The office regularly organizes events for the campus community, such as cooking contests to volunteer initiatives to personal wellness forms, and Skyline's "various amenities will surely provide for some great student events and experiences," Cammarata said.
“We enjoy contributing to and witnessing the personal growth students attain by living on campus, and, with facilities as beautiful as Skyline Hall, hope to create the best home away from home possible," she said.
