CLIFTON, NJ — A Belleville woman has been charged with driving while intoxicated after a head-on crash in the wrong lanes of Route 46 early Monday morning, police said.
The crash happened in the westbound lanes of the highway between Crooks Ave and the Garden State Parkway at around 2:40 a.m., said Clifton Police. Officers arrived to see that a Honda CRV and a Honda Accord had collided head-on, and determined the CRV driver had been going the wrong direction.
Police Lt. Robert Anderson said the CRV driver, 43-year-old Paola Velez, showed signs of being intoxicated and they arrested her for DWI at the scene. She did not seek medical attention, police added.
