Yankees Choose Wayne Veteran for MLB 'Heroes' Campaign

Veterans and service members with passion for baseball will be recognized by league and People magazine.

One lucky U.S. Army veteran from Wayne may have a chance to represent the Yankees in a Major League Baseball campaign this summer to honor those who have served their country.

John Popovich, a 35-year-old Yankees fan, was picked by a panel of judges for the MLB's "Tribute for Heroes" campaign, in partnership with People magazine, according to The Record. As part of the campaign, each MLB team has three finalists representing them, as chosen by the panel, and one finalist from each of the 30 teams, as chosen by the team's fans, will be recognized at a pregame ceremony on July 16.

Popovich, who currently lives in Pompton Lakes but grew up in Wayne, was nominated for the campaign by his wife, Donna, The Record reported. The couple has three children together, ages 16 months, 5 and 3.
