2 Dead In 'Apparent Explosion' At Washington Township Home: Officials

Authorities do not believe the incident was an accident, according to the county prosecutor's acting chief of detectives.

WASHINGTON TOWNSHIP, NJ — Two people died overnight in connection with an "apparent explosion" in Washington Township, according to authorities.

Emergency personnel received multiple 911 calls around 2 a.m. Sunday reporting an explosion and fire in the area of Tranquility Court, and they arrived to find a home heavily damaged and fully engulfed in flames, police said.

A man and woman died in connection with the blaze, according to Gloucester County Prosecutor's Office Acting Chief of Detectives Thomas Gilbert, who said authorities do not believe the incident was an accident.

The siding of two neighboring homes was damaged, Gilbert said.

The incident is under investigation, according to police.
