South Jersey Man Dies In Head-On Crash: Police

A Cumberland County man died in a two-vehicle crash in Hamilton Township Wednesday, authorities said.

HAMILTON, NJ - A Cumberland County man died and another woman was injured in a two-vehicle crash in Hamilton Township Wednesday, authorities said.

At around 12:41 p.m., Hamilton police responded to a report of a crash at Millville Avenue near Pittsburg Avenue where 34-year-old Justin Vanaman of Rosenhayn was pronounced dead at the scene, police said, adding that he was not wearing his seatbelt at the time of the crash.

An initial investigation found that a 2009 Toyota Matrix operated by Vanaman was traveling westbound on Millville Avenue near milepost 25 when the vehicle crossed over the centerline into the eastbound lane and collided head-on with a 2019 Infiniti QX50, driven by Lois Ewen, 80, of Milmay.

Ewen was transported to the hospital for serious injuries.

Traffic was diverted around the area for about four hours while the debris was cleared and an initial investigation took place.

Hamilton police thanked Hamilton Rescue, AtlantiCare Paramedics, Atlantic County Prosecutor's Office, Mays Landing Fire Department, Laureldale Fire Department, Richland Fire Department, and the State of New Jersey Regional Medical Examiner’s Office for their assistance in the on-scene investigation.

The accident remains under investigation by the Township of Hamilton Police Department.
