West Deptford Baseball Upsets Sterling for Group 2 Final Berth

The Eagles storm back with a sixth-inning surge against Sterling.

It had been six years since West Deptford's baseball team ended up on the winning side of the box score against Sterling.

Well, until Wednesday.

The Eagles put together a late-innings comeback against the Knights to pull off the playoff upset on the road, beating the Knights, 8-5, to advance to the South Jersey, Group 2 final.

West Deptford put up three in the fifth to cut into what was a 5-0 Sterling lead, then broke it open with a five-run sixth, getting the tying run on a two-out, two-run single by David Strout.

Harry Sturgis picked up the complete-game victory for the Eagles, who will face No. 4 seed Cinnaminson in the championship game Friday, with their shot at a second championship in three years.
