Dangerous Heat, Humidity Prompts Warning In Union County

UNION COUNTY, NJ — Dangerous temperatures and high humidity are expected over the next three days in Union County, prompting a Heat Advisory.

The National Weather Service (NWS) issued a Heat Advisory for Union County from 11 a.m. on Monday through 8 p.m. on Wednesday.

Heat index values up to 104 degrees are expected during the next three days.

"Hot temperatures and high humidity may cause heat illnesses," according to the NWS.

The NWS offered tips to stay cool:

• Drink plenty of fluids
• Stay in an air-conditioned room
• Stay out of the sun
• Check up on relatives and neighbors
• Take extra precautions when outside
• Wear lightweight and loose-fitting clothing
• Try to limit strenuous activities to early morning or evening
• Take action when you see symptoms of heat exhaustion and heat stroke

Here is a look at the forecast ahead:

Monday: Sunny, with a high near 95. Heat index values as high as 99. Northwest wind 3 to 5 mph.

Monday Night: Mostly clear, with a low around 75. Calm wind.

Tuesday: Sunny, with a high near 98. Heat index values as high as 102. Calm wind becoming west around 6 mph in the afternoon.

Tuesday Night: Mostly clear, with a low around 78. Light southwest wind.

Wednesday: A 30 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms after 2 p.m. Mostly sunny, with a high near 98. Southwest wind 3 to 8 mph.

Wednesday Night: A 40 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 75.

Thursday: A chance of showers and thunderstorms, then showers likely and possibly a thunderstorm after 2 p.m. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 82. Chance of precipitation is 60 percent.

Thursday Night: Showers likely and possibly a thunderstorm. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 67. Chance of precipitation is 60 percent.

Friday: A 40 percent chance of showers. Partly sunny, with a high near 77.
