Food Services For Some Union County Residents Are Changing: See How
The shift goes into effect on Thursday.
UNION COUNTY, NJ — Members of the Union County Senior Nutrition Program will see their services temporarily adjusted beginning on Thursday due to a shift in vendors.
Brooklyn Kitchen is taking over the program that provides nutritious meals to eligible seniors at their doors and meal sites throughout the region.
"As we welcome our new partner, our top priority is ensuring that Union County seniors continue to receive their meals safely, reliably, and without interruption," Lourdes Leon, Chairwoman for the Union County Board of County Commissioners, said.

Delivery times may vary as routes are adjusted and drivers are on different schedules. Meals may arrive earlier or later than usual during the first couple of weeks.
Frozen meals are going to be given out temporarily in January. The food will meet the same nutritional standards, the County said, and help coordinate a consistent flow of service while the new vendor is brought on.

In February, service of hot meals will again be served.
New staff are being trained as drivers and employees on-site at meal kitchens throughout the County. These new team members are all screened and trained to help senior safety and nutritional values, officials said.
All of the 17 congregate meal sites will continue to operate on regular schedules with hot meals during this period.
"This program is about care, consistency, and making sure no senior goes without a meal," added Commissioner Sergio Granados.
No action is needed for seniors who are already enrolled to continue getting meals.
Anyone with questions or concerns about the changes or about eligibility requirements can contact the Union County Division on Aging at 908-527-4870.
