UNION COUNTY, NJ — Heavy rains soaked Union County overnight Tuesday as officials and authorities dealt with flooding and road closures.

Here's how much rain fell in Union County overnight, according to the National Weather Service:

• Clark 1.92 inches
• Springfield 1.91 inches
• New Providence 1.68 inches
• Newark Airport 1.65 inches
• Mountainside 1.61 inches
• Cranford Twp 1.52 inches
• Westfield 1.50 inches

More rain is forecasted to fall on Wednesday and Thursday.

"Flash flooding concerns will continue over the next 3 days," said US National Weather Service Philadelphia/Mount Holly on Wednesday morning.

Here is a look at the upcoming forecast:

Wednesday: A 40 percent chance of showers. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 72. Northeast wind 7 to 9 mph.

Wednesday Night: A 30 percent chance of showers, mainly after 9 p.m. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 66. East wind around 7 mph.

Thursday: A 50 percent chance of showers. Cloudy, with a high near 74. East wind around 10 mph, with gusts as high as 20 mph.

Thursday Night: Showers likely, with thunderstorms also possible after 2 a.m. Cloudy, with a low around 69. East wind 6 to 8 mph. Chance of precipitation is 60 percent. New rainfall amounts between a quarter and half of an inch possible.

Friday: Showers and possibly a thunderstorm. High near 82. South wind 8 to 15 mph, with gusts as high as 29 mph. Chance of precipitation is 90 percent. New rainfall amounts between three-quarters and one inch possible.

Friday Night: Showers. Low around 73. Chance of precipitation is 90 percent. New precipitation amounts between three-quarters and one inch possible.
