Streko was fondly remembered by one community member, Paul Fitzhenry, for his life-saving efforts that saved his son following a car crash. In 2008 Streko administered first aid to Fitzhenry's son Michael after he was struck by a car and left unconscious outside Streko's dental office on Mountain Ave. Streko was recognized for his heroism with a Civic Award presented by Westfield Mayor Andy Skibitsky.

"Our family is forever grateful to Dr. Streko for his heroism and humanity. He came to Michael's as he was unconscious and fighting for his life," Fizhenry said, "Michael is with us today and living a full and happy life thanks to Dr. Streko selfless and courageous act of heroism."
