Pipeline Replacement Work Coming To Westfield: Here’s Where

WESTFIELD, NJ - The replacement of aging underground pipes with new plastic pipes is underway in Westfield, township officials said.

The aging gas mains will be replaced with polyethylene plastic that is "more durable and less expensive to maintain,” Elizabethtown Gas, the utility company behind the repair work, said in a statement. Gas meters are also set to be relocated from the inside of homes and businesses to the outside for easier access.

The pipeline replacement work will affect the Clark Street/First Street/Lawrence Avenue/Summit Avenue and Westfield Avenue areas (see list of streets below). Following the completion of the utility work, Elizabethtown Gas will resurface impacted roadways with milling and paving, officials said. All residents have been provided with notification about the timing of the repair work by Elizabethtown Gas.

“Relocating the gas meter outside provides enhanced safety and reliability, easier access to gas meters in the event of an emergency or natural disaster (such as Hurricane Sandy), and easier access to gas meters to perform maintenance tasks avoiding the need for customers to be home to grant access.”
