Winter Weather Emergency Guidelines For Westfield: What You Need To Know

A State of Emergency was declared for all of New Jersey on Friday afternoon.

WESTFIELD, NJ — The Town of Westfield, along with much of the state, is bracing for heavy snow from Friday into Saturday and taking precautions to keep people safe.

Governor Phil Murphy declared a State of Emergency on Friday afternoon that went into effect at 1 p.m. for all of New Jersey. More than eight inches of snow is estimated to build in some areas.

Westfield was already in one of 11 counties that were under a Winter Storm Warning prior to the governor's declaration. The Town is advising all residents to take their cars off of the streets before the anticipated storm begins.

Residents without driveways can park in Lot 4 behind Baron's. Others without driveways or the ability to park off-street can utilize the Memorial Pool lot on the tennis court side.

Cars parked in these lots must be removed by 1 p.m. on Saturday.

The following areas are subject to alternate side of the street parking (with even house numbers other than Ross Place) after three inches have fallen:

  • 400 and 500 blocks of Downer Street
  • 400 block of First Street
  • Livingston Street
  • Cacciola Place
  • Cowperthwaite Place between Elm and Clark Streets
  • 300 and 400 blocks of Lenox Avenue
  • 200 block of St. Paul Avenue

Tickets will be issued if parking ordinance guidelines are violated.

Shoveling and blowing snow onto a plowed street is also not allowed.

Curbside recycling for Zone 10 and Zone 1 will be picked up on Dec. 29.

Officials in nearby municipalities are reminding residents to avoid driving, get the necessary medications and emergency supplies as soon as you can on Friday afternoon, keep cars in driveways during snow warnings, shovel walkways around your property within 24 hours of snowfall, and don't shovel back into the roads.

Checking in on neighbors is also encouraged, authorities said.
