Westfield Public School Students Raise Funds For Children's Charities

The Student Council from Westfield’s Roosevelt Intermediate School ended the school year by completing two ambitious fundraising goals. With the help of family and friends, the Student Council raised over $600 to purchase items for Children’s Specialized Hospital patients.

After the hospital provided a list of items that were most needed by the children in the long-term care unit of the hospital, the shopping began.

“The students thoroughly enjoyed picking out clothing, musical toys, arts and crafts, infant toys, CDs and more,” stated Student Council advisor Marissa Conneely, who together with co-advisor Allison Balcof, accompanied the students on their shopping mission.

When delivering the items to the hospital, Student Council members had the opportunity to meet two patients in the long-term care unit.

“The smiles on the faces of the patients spoke volumes about the worthiness of dedicating time and efforts to helping others,” added Conneely.

In addition to donating items to the Children’s Specialized Hospital, the Roosevelt Student Council raised $1,500 to donate to the NJ State Student Council chosen charity of the year: Christine’s Hope for Kids. “The Student Council has had a very successful and meaningful year,” stated Roosevelt Intermediate School Principal, Stewart Carey.
