"The trip aimed to offer students an opportunity to gain a deeper appreciation of the culture and language that they had been studying in school," Santilli said. The trip included three days in Florence, including a viewing of Michelangelo's David; walks along the Ponte Vecchio and the Arno River, and spectacular views of the city from the bell tower of the Duomo. Students also took a day trip to Pisa where they visited the famous leaning tower. Heading to Rome, they stopped for a visit in Assisi, before visiting the Roman Coliseum, Sistene Chapel, and the many squares and fountains representative of the Italian capital city.
