Firefighters Battle Blaze at West Orange Recycling Center

A multi-alarm fire broke out on Sunday at the West Orange Recycling Center.

Firefighters from multiple departments battled a four-alarm fire at the West Orange Recycling Plant on Sunday.

The fire broke out around 1:20 p.m. at the recycling plant, located on Mount Pleasant Avenue, according to a report from CBS2. The West Orange Fire Department and several neighboring departments were on the scene fighting the blaze, West Orange Township reported.

The fire reportedly began in a large pile of mulch, according to 1010 WINS. Strong winds played a factor in containing the blaze, but the fire was brought under control by 10 p.m., according to the report.

CBS2 reports nearby homes were evacuated as a precaution while firefighters fought to contain the fire and steer it away from any structures.

Mount Pleasant Avenue, near the recycling center, was closed yesterday, but was reopened after the fire was contained. No injuries have been reported.
