Hanukkah Celebration at Township Hall

As Jews around the world celebrate Hanukkah, the Festival of Lights, and remember the Maccabees victory over the occupying Greek armies, menorahs around the state will be lit in celebration.

The menorah, a candelabrum with nine branches used for Hanukkah, symbolizes the holiday and commemorates the rededication of the ancient Temple in Jerusalem.

In West Orange, the Lubavitch Center of Essex County will have their annual menorah lighting at West Orange Township Hall on Wednesday, Dec. 21 at 4 p.m. Local dignitaries and the public is invited to attend the festivities in front of the building at 66 Main St.

The holiday begins tomorrow at sunset and runs for eight days.

Also on Wednesday, the will host their 30^th annual menorah lighting ceremony beginning at 3:30 p.m. at the New Jersey Statehouse on State Street in Trenton.

The evening will feature college dean Rabbi Moshe Herson along with members, staff and students from the college as well as dignitaries lighting the candelabrum for the second day of the holiday using a cherry picker.

Hanukkah refreshments will also be served following the ceremony.

Governor Chris Christie will lead the celebration.

Both events are free and open to the public.
