Shul Spiel: What's Happening in Local West Orange Synagogues

This week's focus returns to the Lubavitch Center Shul on Pleasant Valley Way.

International Jewish Shabbat Event
One Shabbat, One World, a global project being organized by the international Chabad-Lubavitch movement, will take place over the weekend of Feb. 3-4.

The massive initiative will unite Jewish participants worldwide in the observance of the Jewish Sabbath, with women and girls lighting the traditional Shabbat candles.

Men, women and children alike will mark their participation by attending Chabad synagogues and enjoying the time-honored Friday night dinners, complete with classic Jewish cuisine like challah and gefilte fish.

The event will utilize the Jewish outreach organization’s hundreds of worldwide branches to “unite Jewish communities and individuals everywhere,” said Rabbi Mendy Kasowitz, director of Lubavitch Center of Essex County, the local Chabad presence.  “Everyone can make a difference in making the world a better place, and this is one easy way to do so.”

On Friday evening, Feb. 3, the Lubavitch Center will host a traditional Friday Night Dinner at their shul at 395 Pleasant Valley Way in West Orange. A guest cantor, Chazzan Chezky Herz will entertain participants throughout the evening with age-old Shabbat and Chassidic melodies.
