Suspect Now In Custody In Carteret Fatal Shooting

A suspect was arrested Wednesday evening in the shooting of two women in Carteret, where one died and the other remains critical.

CARTERET, NJ — A suspect was arrested Wednesday evening in the shooting of two women earlier that same day in Carteret, said Middlesex County Prosecutor Yolanda Ciccone.

One woman died. The other woman remains hospitalized Wednesday afternoon in critical condition. The names of both women are not being released until their families can be notified.

The shooting happened Wednesday in the area of Roosevelt Avenue.

Carteret Police responded to a call of shots fired, and when they got there, officers located the two women, who had both sustained gunshot wounds and were airlifted to the hospital in critical condition, authorities said. One woman succumbed to her injuries and died at the hospital.

The county prosecutor says the man in the photo above is a person of interest in the double shooting. He was apprehended in a backyard in Carteret late Wednesday afternoon.
