440 North to be Repaired, Resurfaced

The New Jersey Department of Transportation (NJDOT) has announced a regional maintenance resurfacing and roadway repair project to address four miles of Route 440 northbound in Middlesex County.

NJDOT’s maintenance contractor, Joseph DeFino Contracting Co., has begun initial construction activity this week - sign installation and minor drainage work - requiring some shoulder closures along the highway.

NJDOT will perform full-depth concrete pavement repairs, slab stabilization and mill and repave deteriorated asphalt and concrete roadway at various locations from just north of the NJ Turnpike overpass (milepost 0.0) in Edison to the State Street/High Street exit ramp (milepost 4) in Perth Amboy. The $5.8 million contract will improve motorist safety and extend the pavement lifespan along the full width of the roadway including all travel lanes, shoulders and entrance/exit ramps. 

The work will be performed under the allowable lane closures schedule, maintaining all three northbound travel lanes during peak period travel hours.  Single and double lane closures will be allowed during off-peak hours.  Access to all businesses will be maintained.  All work in the contract is expected to complete this fall 2013.
