Firefighters Say Goodbye to Hopelawn Fire Chief Turcotte
Fire companies, police, and EMS workers turned out for the funeral of Bruce Turcotte, Hopelawn's former fire chief, as Fords residents waited in silence.
No one could remember a funeral as large and as grand, but then, Bruce Turcotte wasn't just any firefighter.
The lifelong volunteer, and a one time chief of the Hopelawn Fire Company, died of a heart attack while laying out fire hoses for a fire that was deliberately set in Menlo Park Terrace.
Throngs lined the streets of Fords, from the Mitruska Funeral Home to a mass at Our Lady of Peace Church for a funeral service. The church was filled with his fellow fire fighers, other emergency workers, and of course, Turcotte's family.

Bagpipe players and drummers led the way for the white horse-drawn carriage that bore Turcotte's flag-draped casket. The glass sided coach gave the quiet curbside spectators a final view of the man who was so esteemed in Fords.
A private burial service was held at Clover Leaf Memorial Park.
