Major Upgrades Coming To Woodbridge's Sewaren Waterfront

A new walking path is coming to Sewaren, and Woodbridge will build a pedestrian footbridge that will connect to Alvin P. Williams park.

WOODBRIDGE, NJ — Woodbridge Township continues full-steam ahead on its big planned improvements for the Sewaren waterfront:

First, a new footpath is coming along the Arthur Kill, and the existing footpath — which is dilapidated and falling apart — will be rebuilt.

The new walking path will connect the Sewaren marina to the Cliff Road neighborhood. Woodbridge is also building a "much-needed and long-awaited pedestrian footbridge that will provide access to Alvin P. Williams park," said Mayor John McCormac Monday.

As we reported last year, Woodbridge has big plans to expand the Sewaren marina and even add a tiki bar and food trucks there. Currently, the Sewaren marina has 28 boat slips; Woodbridge wants to expand that to 70 slips. The Township is also replacing some of the aging docks.

Woodbridge will build a landscaped picnic grove at the marina, and add a parking area for food truck vendors. The Township also plans to upgrade and expand the existing dog park off Cliff Road.

It's all part of the "Sewaren Waterfront Walkway project."

This will give residents access to the Green Acres Open Space situated along the Arthur Kill tidal strait leading to the Raritan River – once considered to be the Jersey Shore’s original coastal destination, said McCormac.

“This funding will allow Woodbridge to make critical repairs to walkways and construct new ones so that residents have safe and easy access to the waterfront and local parks,” said Congressman Frank Pallone, who secured $4 million for the work. “This funding will help revitalize the area around the waterfront and bolster economic development in Woodbridge. I’m looking forward to seeing the new development once it is completed.”
