$1,100 Worth Of Items Stolen From Wyckoff Business: Police

1 of the men tried hiding from police, but he was found and arrested. The other suspect remains at large.

WYCKOFF, NJ — One man was arrested and another escaped after more than $1,100 in merchandise was stolen from a township store Saturday, police said.

Jose A. Guzman, 28, of Union City was charged with shoplifting after an off-duty police officer from another town called authorities to report a shoplifting at the store, said Lt. Joseph Soto.

The officer said two men were putting clothes and other items inside a bag and left the store without paying for it, Soto said. He followed the men until local police found the men.

One of the men, Guzman, tried hiding from police, but they found and arrested him, Soto said. Police could not find the other man.

Police found the $1,125 worth of shoplifted items and a "booster bag," which are used to get around store security devices, were found Soto said.
