Cartoon: Boonstra's 'Deep Roots'

The Republican primary race for the right to run for Township Committee in the fall has inspired a local resident and cartoonist, Haakon Jepsen, to reflect on Mayor Rudy Boonstra's "deep roots" to the community.

Boonstra is running for his second term aboard the governing body after 40-plus years of service to Wyckoff, where he has served as a school board and zoning board member, coinciding with several decades with the Wyckoff Fire Department.

He faces the Rev. Jeff Boucher, pastor of Powerhouse Christian Church and former youth minister at Wyckoff Baptist Church. Boucher, the chaplain of the Wyckoff Police Department, is the founder and president of Touch the World Ministries, headquartered in Allendale.
