Franklin Lakes Community Rallies Together for Sanitation Worker Killed Last Week

In six days, almost $5,000 has been raised for the family of Stanley Rollins.

The Franklin Lakes community is rallying together and raising money for Stanley Rollins, the sanitation worker who was killed in town when he was struck by his own garbage truck last week.

Colony Florists presented a check made up of donations from residents to the family, and is providing purple ribbons for residents to display on their mailboxes to show their sympathy, according to NorthJersey.com.

Fifty-nine people have also donated a total of $4,890 to a GoFundMe fundraiser for Stanley, who, according to NorthJersey.com, left behind his wife, four children and four grandchildren.

Stanley was killed on Jan. 7 when the driver of the truck, William Handlin of Kearny, struck him. Officers arrived at the scene found 53-year-old Rollins, of Paterson, underneath the vehicle.

He was transported to St. Joseph’s Hospital in Paterson, where he was later pronounced dead.

Police say the incident appears to be accidental, but are asking that any witnesses contact the Franklin Lakes Police Department at 201-891-3131.

Visitation will be at Carnie P. Bragg Funeral Home in Paterson on Saturday, Jan. 17 from 12 to 1 p.m., with service beginning at 2 p.m.
