Wyckoff PBA Cornhole Tournament Fundraiser Returns Sept. 14

The tournament will benefit the Mallory's Army Foundation, an advocacy group launched by the parents of a NJ girl who took her own life.

WYCKOFF, NJ – After the success of its first-ever cornhole tournament fundraiser last year, Wyckoff PBA Local 261 has organized another charity competition in September.

This year’s tournament, set for Sept. 14, will benefit the Mallory’s Army Foundation, an advocacy group launched by the parents of a Morris County girl who took her own life after being bullied. The contest will run from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Wyckoff Family YMCA, on the beach of Spring Lake, 691 Wyckoff Ave.

Ever since 12-year-old Mallory Grossman’s death, her parents,Seth and Dianne, have made it their mission to end bullying. By sharing their daughter’s story, the Rockaway family hopes it will prevent similar tragedies from occurring.

“We chose Mallory’s Army this year because the state PBA has been very supportive of their cause for a few years now,” said Officer Ryan Tenney, one of the fundraiser’s organizations. “Mallory’s mother, Dianne Grossman, has been a speaker at several of our mini-conventions.”

Tenney said the union wanted to do what it could to help support the non-profit’s goal of making parents and children “more aware of the effects of bullying.”

Nowadays, he said, “Children have such easy access to social media that it’s so easy for bullying to take place without parents’ knowledge” and the union wants to help the non-profit with its goal of making parents and children “more aware of the effects of bullying.”

“Most of us in our union are parents and couldn’t even imagine our children going through that or our children bullying others,” Tenney said.

Last year's fundraiser benefitted the New Jersey State PBA Survivor and Welfare Fund, Tackle Kids Cancer and the Matthew Larson Foundation for Pediatric Brain Tumors.
