📰 News we're reading

• Independent Nation unveils SAFE tool to aid Sunland Park businesses amid corruption suit (kfoxtv.com) — Sunland Park business owners now have access to a new reporting tool called SAFE, created by developer Independent Nation as it pursues a lawsuit against city officials. The online channel lets local businesses confidentially document licensing or operational problems and, if they choose, share them with attorneys or regulators, while organizers stress it doesn’t replace formal complaint processes or serve as an investigative body.

• Borderland Gripes – Noisy Sunland Park, Stinky El Paso (klaq.com) — Residents in and around Sunland Park are being kept awake by a mysterious, extremely loud noise that’s been traced to a vacuum station, which officials say should be replaced by spring 2026. Locals also regularly battle a powerful sewage-plant odor that can drift as far as the Sunland Park–Doniphan intersection, depending on the wind. Both nuisances highlight how everyday quality-of-life issues can ripple across the Borderland.

• Permit applications for Project Jupiter microgrids raise fears about scale, emissions (santafenewmexican.com) — A massive natural-gas-powered “microgrid” complex is being proposed just outside Sunland Park and Santa Teresa to power the planned Project Jupiter data center campus, raising concerns about its true scale and emissions. Permit filings suggest the two facilities could generate nearly half of New Mexico’s current annual electricity output and emit millions of tons of greenhouse gases, prompting questions about local and statewide environmental impacts.
