Mysterious Tweet Predicts Aaron Rodgers Injury, User Later Suspended

"Aaron Rodgers is going to tear his Achilles on a rain drenched MetLife turf in 2.5 hours," the account predicted with eerie accuracy.

NEW YORK — The fallout from Aaron Rodgers' season-ending injury is extending beyond the New York Jets and their long-suffering fans.

An account on "X" — the social media website formerly known as Twitter — was banned after the user correctly predicted the time and circumstances of QB Aaron Rodgers' season-ending injury on the wet turf of MetLife Stadium hours before it happened.

"Aaron Rodgers is going to tear his Achilles on a rain drenched MetLife turf in 2.5 hours," wrote user @DaddyZaslav wrote at 6:01 p.m. easter. The account was a parody of Warner Bros. Discovery CEO David Zaslav.

By 8:30 p.m., Rodgers had been carted off the field due to an injury later confirmed to be a complete tear of his Achilles tendon. He will be out for the rest of the season, the Jets confirmed.

Despite the loss of Rodgers, the Jets did, however, hang on for an impressive 22-16 win over a strong Buffalo Bills squad Monday night.

Rodgers' career is also at risk, and it’s possible he will never return to the gridiron.

"Not the way any of us wanted it to go, but we know the commitment you've made to this team will continue to impact us moving forward," the Jets organization shared in a social media post Tuesday. "Get well soon, Aaron Rodgers."

More than 10 million people saw the tweet before the user was suspended, with no explanation from X owner Elon Musk or any of his employees, sparking a wide range of internet conspiracy theories.

One of the more simple explanations for the disciplinary action cites the account's vulgar and violent tweets posted after Rodgers went down.

Regardless of the reason for the suspension, the prediction won't bring any comfort to Jets fans who thought Rodgers would help their team end a 13-year playoff drought.

New York completed a stunning overtime win over the Buffalo Bills on Monday Night Football despite Rodgers' leaving the field, but their postseason chances look grim with backup QB Zach Wilson taking over the team.

The Jets were a popular sleeper pick for a deep postseason run entering the year, with the former Green Bay quarterback at the helm of a young offensive core.

As the Jets future is again at risk — they're looking to end their 13-year playoff drought — the Green Bay Packers will now instead receive a 2024 second-round pick instead of a first-round pick. That's because, under the terms of April's trade, Rodgers had to play in 65 percent of the Jets' offensive snaps this season in order for the Packers to get a first-rounder.
