NY Anchor Who Blamed Bungled Newscast On Exhaustion Won't Return
In a statement, Heather Kovar of WRGB in Albany said she won't renew her contract after returning to work following her father's death.
ALBANY, NY — An Albany news anchor who blamed a recent botched newscast on sleep deprivation and exhaustion will not return to work when her contract expires on July 31, according to multiple reports.
Heather Kovar, an anchor at WRGB in Albany, turned heads during a Saturday broadcast when she appeared on-air stammering and going off-script.
In a video of the broadcast, Kovar also appeared disheveled. During a segment, Kovar also introduced the wrong meteorologist, then asked, "Why did I say that?"

On Sunday, WRGB released a statement suspending Kovar pending an internal investigation, the Albany Times Union reported.
In a separate statement to the Times Union, Kovar said she had returned to work early from a leave of absence following the death of her father. She blamed her behavior on sleep deprivation and exhaustion.

Kovar also told NBC News she plans not to renew her contract with WRGB when it expires on July 31.
Kovar has been WRGB's weekend anchor for several years.
