1. Albany Mayor-elect Dorcey Applyrs introduces four transition committees (cbs6albany.com) — Albany residents are getting a first look at Mayor‑elect Dorcey Applyrs’ agenda as she rolls out four transition committees focused on economic growth, youth and culture, public safety, and quality of life. Nearly 50 local leaders, including University at Albany and school district officials, will help shape priorities, with a public-facing tool promised so residents can track progress starting Jan. 1.
   

2. 17 displaced, two hospitalized in 3-building Albany fire (cbs6albany.com) — A major overnight fire on Garfield Place in Albany damaged three neighboring homes, displaced 17 residents, and sent two people to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. Firefighters are still working on hot spots and investigators have begun looking into how the blaze started, while officials say they’re unsure about the condition of pets that were inside.
   

3. A seed planted for a Holocaust Memorial in NY comes to fruition (heritagefl.com) — Albany’s Empire State Plaza has been chosen as the future home of New York’s first state-sponsored Holocaust memorial, following Governor Hochul’s December 1 bill signing. Sparked by the late Capital Region orthodontist Dr. Michael Lozman, the project now moves to state planners while local advocates push to lead its design and launch companion education programs statewide in 2026.
   

4. NYSCA program wraps 57 murals statewide, including in Albany (timesunion.com) — Albany is now home to two new CHARM-funded murals, including a floral, history-themed piece on the Quackenbush Garage and a bold redesign of Albany Center Gallery’s North Pearl Street exterior. The statewide NYSCA initiative backed 57 murals overall, with Albany Center Gallery and other Capital Region partners helping turn underused spaces into colorful public art and community landmarks.
   

5. Friday Night High School Hoops: (12/12) Recap (cbs6albany.com) — Albany High’s boys basketball team opened Class AA play on the road Friday, battling last year’s state runner-up Niskayuna before falling 70–65 in a tight game. The matchup was part of a busy Capital Region hoops slate as winter sports season gets underway.
