📰 News we're reading

1. Annual holiday harvest to feed hundreds in Albany (news10.com) — A free holiday feast at Albany’s Palace Theatre will serve hundreds of residents on December 20, with two meal seatings and toys and resources available for families. Organized by chef Jermaine Wright and 8 Count Kitchen, the event asks guests to bring canned goods, community fridge items, or new unwrapped toys, and emphasizes love, dignity, and community spirit. Volunteers are still being sought.

2. Stolen vehicle found in Albany; three face felony charges (cbs6albany.com) — State Police say a vehicle reported stolen in Slingerlands was tracked down on North Manning Avenue in Albany, where three people were arrested. Investigators allege the driver took the car from an acquaintance and showed signs of impairment, while a passenger was found with drugs and paraphernalia. All three were released with appearance tickets for Albany City Court.

3. Video surveillance leads to the arrest of Albany man accused of armed robbery (cbs6albany.com) — Albany police and prosecutors say video surveillance helped identify a 42-year-old city resident now charged in an October armed robbery at the Nice and Easy Food Mart on Central Avenue. Officers later searched a Park Avenue home, reporting they recovered a loaded handgun, high-capacity magazine, and drugs. The defendant has pleaded not guilty and is being held at the county jail.

4. Is it legal to use a snowblower before dawn in NY? Here's what to know (thetimesherald.com) — Albany residents can legally run snowblowers between 6 a.m. and 8 p.m., and snow-removal noise is generally exempt from the city’s quiet hours. A statewide roundup compares how Buffalo, Rochester, Syracuse and Utica set their own time limits, helping you plan early-morning or late-night snow clearing without upsetting neighbors.

5. Coalition forms to defend Raise the Age ahead of potential rollback (brooklyneagle.com) — State lawmakers will soon debate possible changes to New York’s Raise the Age law in Albany, where a new coalition of more than 220 groups is organizing to block any rollback. Advocates argue the reform has reduced youth felony arrests but say the state has failed to deliver promised funding for counseling and community programs, while some prosecutors and police leaders continue to push for tougher treatment of teens.
