Regional Food Bank Awarded $5,000 from Northeastern Insurance

Liberty Mutual and Safeco Insurance have awarded Northeastern Insurance a 2024 Make More Happen Award for its volunteerism with the Regional Food Bank, a nonprofit organization whose mission is to lead a network of partners to alleviate hunger, prevent food waste, and nourish communities in 23 counties of New York state. The award includes an initial donation of $5,000 for the Regional Food Bank which can be doubled to $10,000 just by having community supporters vote online.

Starting Monday, July 15, the Northeastern Insurance and Regional Food Bank community story will be highlighted on the official Make More Happen microsite at www.agentgiving.com/Northeastern-Insurance-2024, where supporters can vote to help the team reach their donation goal. If the featured story receives at least 500 votes, the $5,000 donation will be raised to $10,000.

The Regional Food Bank provides nearly 50 million pounds of food annually through a network of over 1,000 charitable agencies serving people experiencing food insecurity, including food pantries, soup kitchens, emergency shelters, youth programs, senior programs and programs for the disabled. Nearly 50% of the people served by food pantries are children. With a vision to make a life-changing difference to those in need, the $10,000 donation will help fund many of their programs and expand their reach.

The agency is dedicated to giving back to organizations like the Regional Food Bank. During their annual Volunteer Week for the past two years, a group of employees volunteered at the Food Bank. They were tasked with sorting through donated beverages and preparing for distribution which included checking for expired labels, making sure the nutrition label was visible and that there were no seals broken or distorted. Once a box was filled with its 40-pound limit, it was sealed and moved to the section for distribution.

Throughout 2024, Liberty Mutual and Safeco Insurance will select up to 37 independent agents nationwide for a Make More Happen Award donating up to $370,000 to the nonprofits they support. Agencies became eligible for the award by submitting an application and photos demonstrating their commitment to a specific nonprofit.
