Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez Wins Democratic Congressional Primary
The AP called the race for U.S. Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez as she held a clear lead over three Democratic challengers Tuesday night.

QUEENS, NY — U.S. Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez has defeated her challengers in the Democratic primary Tuesday, the Associated Press projected.
Ocasio-Cortez's likely win over her three primary challengers puts her a step closer to winning a second term in Congress in November's general election.
Her chief opponent, former CNBC anchor Michelle Caruso-Cabrera, raked in more than $2 million in her bid to unseat the freshman congresswoman.

Yet Ocasio-Cortez held roughly 73 percent of the vote just before midnight Tuesday, with well over triple the votes earned by Caruso-Cabrera, according to preliminary results.
Ocasio-Cortez's district includes parts of northern Queens and The Bronx.

When I won in 2018, many dismissed our victory as a “fluke.”
Our win was treated as an aberration, or bc my opponent “didn’t try.”
So from the start, tonight’s race was important to me.
Tonight we are proving that the people’s movement in NY isn’t an accident. It‘s a mandate.

Multiple projections handed the victory to Ocasio-Cortez, even though at least 8,000 absentee ballots remain uncounted in her district, according to the NYC Board of Elections.
