Amtrak Train Stalled In Long Island City For Nearly 7 Hours
An Acela train lost power around 8:30 a.m. Monday as it passed through Long Island City. Passengers were stranded until after 3 p.m.
LONG ISLAND CITY, QUEENS — Passengers on a high-speed Amtrak train suffered through a far-from-rapid journey into the city on Monday, as their train stalled in Long Island City for hours on end.
Acela train 2151, en route from Boston to Washington, D.C., became stalled around 8:37 a.m. when it lost power near the Hunterspoint Avenue station, in the Sunnyside Yards area of Queens. It did not get moving again until 3:20 p.m.
"There are no [reports] of any injuries to passengers [or] crew as water and snacks were available and provided," an Amtrak spokesperson told Patch.

That may have been little comfort to those aboard the train — some of whom took to Twitter to air their grievances.
"Going on hour four stuck in Sunnyside Yard. Ridiculous," tweeted user Ken Rogozinski just before noon, later adding that it remained stuck after 1:30 p.m.

"approaching 5 hours stuck on a broken amtrak 10 minutes away from my stop," wrote another rider.
Around 1:30 p.m., an Amtrak spokesperson said that a rescue engine had arrived and "should be moving the train into Moynihan Train Hall shortly." But it was not until 3:20 p.m. that the train was officially moving again.
